If you thought that Missy Elliott’s not-so-surprise appearance during Katy Perry’s Super Bowl halftime show was the sign of an imminent comeback, pat yourself on the back. Wednesday morning, Jack Ü, the newish team-up between EDM superstars Diplo and Skrillex, posted a Missy remix of their single “Take Ü There,” featuring “Hideaway” singer Kiesza, that proves despite her radically attenuated release schedule since
2005’s The Cookbook, her skills remain sharp as ever
She doesn’t actually seem to have done much to the original beat, but the segment she jumps in on, where a skronking horn part flips into weightless dance floor transcendence, was lifted straight out of the playbook she wrote, and her new vocal part shows off her trademark blend of rapping and singing, as well as her ability to pack her lyrics with enough jokes and references to need at least a handful of listens to sort out
Every day it looks like we’re getting a little closer to seeing her long-awaited Cookbook follow-up actually get released. Fingers crossed
